ABOUT THE SHOW
Consider yourself at home with Lionel Bart’s classic musical based on Charles Dickens’ novel, Oliver Twist. The Tony and Olivier Award-winning show is one of the few musicals to win an Academy Award for Best Picture and is widely hailed as a true theatrical masterpiece by actors and audience members alike.
The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin. When Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit, the benevolent victim, Mr. Brownlow takes him in. Fearing the safety of his hideout, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sykes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap him back, threatening Oliver’s chances of discovering the true love of a family.
OLIVER! is truly a masterpiece and shows off the talents of Lionel Bart at his best. As one reviewer put it, “With this show, the audience whistles the tunes as they COME IN to the theatre”.
Our production will be directed by Theatre Bugs Managing Director Michael Eustice, with assistance from the creative Theatre Bugs team.
FACEBOOK PAGE FOR CAST AND CREW
Our Facebook page is a great way for castmates to keep in touch during and after the production period, as well as keep up-to-date with any last minute changes (every effort will be made to contact cast members not on FB for any important info). We understand not everyone is involved with Facebook and it is not at all compulsory to join, but it is highly recommended since videos of choreography are usually too large to email and are often uploaded to the page. We will provide the link here once the page has been created.
The cost to be involved in the production covers over 60hrs of performing arts training, an “Oliver!” show t-shirt, ATA rehearsal bag filled with goodies, costume hire (you will need to supply basic items such as dance shoes, stockings, undergarments), welcome drinks and nibbles for parents and cast, after-show cast party, and an incredible and unforgettable performance experience!
$195 payable by Friday 21st September 2018
$295 payable by Friday 11th January 2019
A 10% discount is offered to siblings.
Why do youth theatre companies charge a fee to be involved in large scale stage productions? The fees enable producers to cover the costs of directors, choreographers, professional theatre hire, technical requirements, costumes, sets and much more. Ticket sales alone would not cover the expenses which are necessary to provide the outstanding production experience which comes with performing in a major venue such as the celebrated Norwood Concert Hall.
