Once students have been attending Theatre Bugs for a few terms and have reached a certain skill level, they may be invited to an advanced version of Musical Theatre where they are challenged a little further.
The Advanced Musical Theatre (AMT) students continue their learning of dance (co-ordination, technique, jazz/contemporary routines), singing (pitch, projection, rhythm) and acting (characterisation, mime, voice projection, script interpretation, Stanislavsky method, acting for film/tv)
They perform in two major events each year – in term 2 AMT students perform in a musical with the Senior Musical Theatre and Advanced Combo 3 students. In term 4, the AMT students perform in a production involving many other classes from Theatre Bugs. Both productions are held in theatres.
In the past, the AMT students have performed popular shows such as ‘Charlie Brown’, ‘The Secret Garden’, ‘Step Back In Time’, ‘Aladdin’, ‘Peter Pan’ and ‘Snow White’. Each child is given an individual character part and has song/dance routines to learn. The two major productions are a great opportunity for the students to perform in a theatre with professional sets, lights, microphones and amazing costumes. Students are required to attend a couple of extra rehearsals in terms 2 and 4 to prepare for the productions.
The AMT students are also occasionally invited to perform in additional events such as Flash Mobs, the Credit Union Christmas Pageant, Peter Combe concerts and ABC’s ‘Behind The News’.
